EmilyHi, I’m Emily Davidson, I’m 17, go to saints peter and Paul 6th Form College and live in lovely, lovely Widnes. Listen, I’m not going to make aloada false promises. Stand here and tell you that I’m superwoman, no matter how hard I pretend. But I do have some powers, commitment, action and progress.
Last year you elected me as MYP and this year you re-elected me as deputy MYP. So hopefully you could see the qualities I possess. This is also my 3rd year on youth cabinet and I still walk into each meeting as fresh and new as ever bursting with ideas. But the difference now, in my 3rd year is that I have more experience. Consulting with young people or prominent figures about recycling or the proposed incinerator or even telling people to buzz off, not in a nasty way though! Buzz off was a national campaign to rid our streets of the many mosquito devices used by shops. I even became Operational Director of Business Planning and Resources and strategic lead on Equality and Diversity issues for Halton borough council. I also work with young people on a regular basis for my job as an alcohol awareness peer educator for Merseyside youth association working in Liverpool. Working with young people is so rewarding and gives me a purpose and makes I think a difference. Even if you reach one young person there’s a large chance to reach more. It’s worth a shot, right?
We need to be proud to be young people, be proud of the person you are. Be more than the hood, the behaviour or the label. We need to challenge these ridiculous ideas now or no one ever will. I guarantee me and my mouth would this year as I have before.
Voting for me means equality, dedication and action. Young people need a voice and sooner rather than later, we need respect and we need to be treated like an equal. If young people are the future, vote for me and let’s make the future young people and let’s make it start right now. Thanks.
